_my approach
My tried and tested approach for a consulting mandate is: while I use my neutral perspective to derive structured recommendations for action and then implement these with you, I also start providing operational support straight away. There are usually issues where I can help immediately.
The path to successfully implementing recommendations for action involves the steps shown below:
Interviews / situation analysis
I take the time and use my outside perspective to create a situation analysis. With the help of structured individual interviews, I determine the strengths and weaknesses in the project. I base this on the competence elements and the corresponding IPMA competence indicators. Once I have gained as complete a picture as possible, I summarize my findings in writing and recommend measures.
Prioritized recommendations for action
These are pre-sorted by me according to cost/benefit and are then discussed with the client. The result is a prioritized list of recommended actions. I am happy to incorporate these into a backlog in order to implement Kanban or Scrum.
Implementation
I myself take responsibility for implementing the measures together with the project team members and the customer organization. The status is monitored regularly.
Interim status and anchoring
After a defined period of time, I carry out a major interim status/review where the current and remaining recommendations for action are reassessed. The results generated are anchored in the organization (e.g. through standards/guidelines, training) in such a way that they can be continued without me.
Conclusion
The mandate ends with a final report that reflects the results based on the situation analysis.
